Wing Mounting

1994 Miss Budweiser T-3

Complete Assembly mounted to boat

Transom Mount. This mount was custom manufactured to match the one on the real boat. It is where the supports

are attached to the deck. The supports should have faring material outside them.

Mine do not as they were an emergency repair at the last race of the year.

And one more from the front

Side view of mounted wing, note that screws on outside of vertical

are only at the top. Lower screws are on inside to hide from view

A closer look at the horizontal mounting screws. Through the verticals and into the horizontal

Nylon so that parts don't get busted up in a crash

Holes in the horizontal for receiving screws. Slight damage from accidents but wing does not get torn up

Note bottom mounting screws are on inside of wings. Also nylon to prevent damage in tear off

Wing mounts screw into deck. Some people fiberglass them to inside of hull

underneath deck. The object is to keep the amount that slips up inside the wing

very short so the bottom of the wings don't get torn up in a crash.

Note that the mounts are held to the boat with metal screws, the wings held to the mounts with nylon

I

A closer look at the mount. It only raise up where the screws go through the wings. Again minimizing the area to be affected during an accident.

This is the mount with the mounting screw in it. In practice, the vertical is hollow and slips down over the mount with the screw head on the outside of the interior side of the wing

Again, a demonstration of how the supports are just barely tall enough to fit inside the wings.

This setup attaches the wings firmly to the boat. I have only had them come off twice in three years. Even though the boat has flipped many times. When they do come off, normally the nylon screws give way and damage to the wings is minimal. You sometimes need to use an exacto to back out the sheared off ends in the horizontal. Sometimes minor damage is done around the screw holes in the lower verticals.

You can do the same thing mounting brackets up through the deck of the hull. Again the key is to not have the mounts go way up into the verticals.

Also, the bracket for the supports is custom made to match the real Miss Budweiser. Other boat has it's own mounting plate. This 1994 Miss Budweiser is the last to use this particular model. Try and make yours match the one on your real boat.

Here is a picture of the current plate on the Miss Budweiser.
